The Thousand Oaks sleep apnea therapy center has released the updated guide for Bongo Rx, a new Expiratory Positive Air Pressure (EPAP) device designed to assist patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) to manage their symptoms and optimize sleep quality without requiring a continuous connection to hoses, batteries, or other ongoing support devices.

The Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center has provided more information on Bongo Rx at https://sleepmd4u.com/bongo-sleep-apnea-therapy-device

The Bongo Rx medical device is offered by Dr. Ronald Popper to help patients who either do not qualify for CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) devices or who qualify but wish to have an alternative that does not require electricity or battery power to operate.

CPAP devices use a continuous airflow to generate pressure within the airways until the next breath is taken, countering the effects of sleep apnea which disrupt breathing whilst asleep. However, these devices require connection to air hoses, batteries, or an electrical supply. As they can be uncomfortable to sleep with, many patients do not continue their treatment.

In contrast, Bongo Rx is a small intranasal EPAP device that utilizes soft silicone seals to close the nasal openings, ensuring that breathing is redirected through the device’s air valves. It is suitable for patients suffering from mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.

Bongo Rx is available in four replacement sizes to suit patients with different head and nasal passage measurements. A travel case is also included for those patients who currently use CPAP but wish to have an EPAP device for camping or overseas trips. The device has been clinically assessed and received 510(k) clearance by the FDA.

“Millions of people suffer from OSA. Left untreated, this sleep disorder can be detrimental to your health and your quality of life. Bongo Rx is a new prescription device that represents the next leap in sleep apnea therapy,” states product Dr. Ronald Popper, Medical Director of the Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center.

Founded in 1984, the center is California’s leading sleep medicine therapy facility that is neither a university nor a hospital. Dr. Popper holds certifications in sleep disorders medicine from the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
